Building Community Through Partnership: Our First Bike Rodeo Success

On September 14th, 2024, WeGo Together for Kids held our inaugural Bike Rodeo in the Turtle Splash parking lot, drawing a fantastic turnout of families. We were thrilled to have many organizations come together and contribute to the rodeo. The West Chicago Park District generously allowed us to use their space to host the rodeo and provided numerous resources to ensure the event’s success. Northwestern Medicine donated helmets for the kids and set up a helmet fitting station, ensuring safety for all participants. Healthy West Chicago kept everyone refreshed and shared their “Rethink Your Drink” program to educate families on the sugar content in sodas. Both the police department and fire department were present. The West Chicago police department set up a bike registration table, and assisted kids with the obstacle course. The West Chicago Fire Department engaged with the kids, handing out stickers and educational materials. We were pleased to have State Representative Maura Hirschauer’s office participate. There were members who helped with setting up the course and handing out information cards from Ride On Illinois. Spin Doctor Cyclewerks was on hand to assist with bike adjustments and other minor things. Additionally, we received valuable mapping guidance and other tools from the City of Warrenville. Working with these organizations was truly enjoyable and WeGo Together for Kids couldn’t have achieved this without their support. Seeing so many kids enjoying their bikes was fantastic, and we’re already looking forward to the next Bike Rodeo!
