DVSA Communities, in collaboration with Sofia Gonzalez from the WCPD, launched an in-person support group dedicated to survivors of domestic violence. Their journey began in July 2024, when they came together to thoughtfully plan and organize every detail necessary to create a welcoming and secure space. From the start, they were committed to ensuring that this support group would provide healing, empowerment, and valuable resources for those in need.
As part of their preparations, they reached out to various venues, carefully considering each option to find the perfect space to host their sessions. After much deliberation, DVSA selected a location that aligned with their mission of comfort, accessibility, and safety. This space has since become a refuge, fostering connection and support among survivors.
Their first official session took place on September 25th, 2024, marking a significant milestone in this initiative. Since then, they have witnessed an incredible turnout and engagement from participants. Survivors have played a vital role in shaping their meetings, contributing their ideas, experiences, and collective support to build a truly inclusive environment. Through open discussions, shared resources, and mutual encouragement, their community has flourished.
Looking ahead, they are eager to continue growing and strengthening their support network. With thoughtful programming, special events, and ongoing advocacy, they aim to expand our reach and further enhance the healing journey for all involved. They are deeply grateful for the support they have received and excited for everything they have planned this year. Together, they will continue fostering resilience, hope, and empowerment for survivors of domestic violence.
